Client Directed Home Care Invoicing
How CDHCI Works
There are three steps between you and care you direct yourself — and it all starts with a home care assessment.
-
Get a home care assessment
CDHCI has no application form and no way to apply directly — it starts with a home care assessment. Call Health Link at 811 and ask for a home care assessment. A case manager decides your eligibility, your approved hours, and whether CDHCI is suitable for you.
CDHCI usually has to be asked for by name — tell your case manager you want CDHCI and that you want to choose your own provider.
-
Choose your provider
Once you are approved, you choose your provider from the approved providers on the Alberta Blue Cross CDHCI provider list. Serenity Care Services Inc is on that list for Medicine Hat — tell your case manager you choose Serenity.
-
Serenity provides your care and handles the billing
We provide your non-medical home care in your own home, and Serenity can direct bill Alberta Blue Cross for clients in the CDHCI program. Any balance not covered by the program is billed separately.

Who CDHCI Is For
CDHCI fits best when care needs are predictable and steady — ongoing support that follows a consistent routine from week to week.
It also needs someone to direct the care. That can be you, or a family member you name as your CDHCI manager. The CDHCI manager takes an active role: choosing the provider, managing the schedule, and signing the Letter of Agreement and consent forms.
Serenity provides non-medical home care for people of all ages, so eligible CDHCI clients of any age in Medicine Hat can choose Serenity as their provider.
The CDHCI manager looks after
- Choosing the provider — pick an approved provider from the Alberta Blue Cross CDHCI provider list.
- Managing the schedule — arrange when care happens, around your routines.
- Signing the paperwork — the Letter of Agreement and consent forms for the program.
